What Home Buyers Actually Look for on a Realtor's Website

See what home buyers actually look for on a realtor website and make it easier for them to find, trust, and contact you.

Learn what home buyers actually look for on a realtor website, including property search, listing details, property photos, location information, agent details, mobile usability, trust signals, and clear ways to get in touch.

Your Website Isn't Just for You

So someone finds your website.

Maybe they came from Google. Maybe they saw your name on Instagram. Maybe a friend sent them your link.

They are not there to admire your website. They want to find a home.

They want to know what you have listed, what it costs, where it is, what it looks like, and how they can ask you about it. That's why a real estate website should be built around what the buyer needs, not just what looks good to the realtor.

Here are the things buyers actually want to find when they visit your website.

Before you get into the interesting part: if you want to get a taste of what a simple real estate website can look like, or you want to get one set up quickly with just the essentials, check out Listings Starter. 1. They Want to Find the Right Property Quickly

Imagine you're looking for a home and open a real estate website. You see a big hero image, a few nice sections, and some properties.

Sounds good.

But now you want to find a 3-bedroom house under $300,000 in a specific area. If the website makes you scroll through every property to find it, you're probably not sticking around for long.

A good real estate website should make property search simple. Buyers should be able to narrow things down by things like:

  • Property type

  • Location

  • Price

  • Bedrooms or bathrooms

  • Other useful property features

The goal is simple: help buyers get from "I'm looking for a home" to "this one looks interesting" as quickly as possible.

2. They Want the Important Property Details

Finding a property is only the first step.

Once someone sees a home they like, they want answers. What's the price? Where is it? How big is it? How many bedrooms does it have? Is it still available?

Don't make them dig through the page to find basic information.

A good listing should make the important details easy to spot, such as:

  • Price and location

  • Property type

  • Bedrooms and bathrooms

  • Size

  • Description and key features

  • Property status

  • High-quality photos

You don't need to throw every possible detail at them either. Just make sure the information someone needs to decide whether they're interested is easy to find.

3. They Want to See the Property Properly

You can have the perfect listing, but if the photos are tiny, badly cropped, or hard to browse, the buyer is going to have a hard time getting interested.

Think about how you shop for anything online. You want to see it before you ask about it.

The same goes for a home.

Your website should give buyers a good way to look through the property photos. If you have floor plans, videos, or virtual tours, those can help too. The point is to give someone a better idea of the property before they decide whether it's worth contacting you.

4. They Want to Know Where the Property Is

A buyer shouldn't have to leave your website just to figure out where a property is located.

Show the location clearly. If it makes sense for the listing, you can also include useful information about the neighbourhood, nearby places, or local area.

This matters because location is part of the property.

Someone might love the house but realize it's too far from work. Another person might be searching specifically for a certain neighbourhood. Give them enough information to make that decision without making them hunt for it.

5. They Want to Know Who They're Dealing With

At some point, the buyer stops looking at houses and starts looking at you.

Who is the person behind these listings? Do they know the area? Have they helped other people? Can I trust them with a purchase this big?

This is where your website needs more than just property cards.

Show people who you are. A simple agent introduction, your areas of expertise, testimonials, recent sales, and a clear contact option can go a long way.

Your listings get people interested. Your website should give them a reason to trust you.

6. They Want to Know What to Do Next

Let's say someone finds a property they love.

Great.

Now they want to ask a question or schedule a viewing. Don't make them search through your website for five minutes trying to find your phone number or contact form.

Give them an obvious next step.

It could be:

  • Contact the agent

  • Schedule a viewing

  • Ask about the property

  • Request more information

  • Call or email

The exact CTA can change depending on your business. What matters is that the buyer knows what to do next.

7. They Want the Website to Work on Their Phone

A buyer might be sitting on the couch, waiting for coffee, or scrolling through listings in bed.

They're not always going to be sitting at a desktop.

So your website needs to work just as well on a phone. Listings should be easy to browse, photos should look good, filters should be usable, and contact buttons should actually be easy to tap.

A buyer shouldn't have to pinch, zoom, or fight with your website just to look at a house.

8. They Don't Want to Fight Your Website

At the end of the day, buyers aren't asking for anything crazy.

They want to:

Find a property → understand the property → see what it looks like → know where it is → learn about the agent → take the next step.

Your website should make that path easy.

It doesn't need to have every new design trend or 20 sections on the homepage. It just needs to help someone find what they're looking for without getting in their way.

Wrapping It Up

When you look at your real estate website, don't only ask, "Does this look good?"

Ask yourself:

"If I were looking for a home, could I find what I need here?"

Can I find the right property? Can I understand the listing? Can I see the home properly? Can I figure out where it is? Can I learn about the agent? And if I want to know more, can I easily get in touch?

If the answer is yes, your website is doing what it should.
